A note from the Founder

These days, people don't just want to read an article which they can casually relate to. They want to feel understood on a personal level. It is a writer's duty to tap into the minds of his/her audience and produce something that really resonates and interests them.

As a reader myself, I know that if I have a problem, I want to read a solution from someone who has experienced something similar to me. I want to see written material that refreshes my mindset and perspective, and enriches my creativity.

That's what I love about 55th Meridian East. Yes, it's a glossy new travel and lifestyle website that offers fresh inspiration and unique articles on popular areas of interest, but it also has a really beautiful and refreshing concept at its centre. Every article is written with the health and wellness of its readers in mind. As founder and writer of many of the articles on the website, I want to share my experiences in life because I know that somewhere out there, someone else is feeling the same way and needs support, advice or inspiration. Regardless of where they are in the world, I want 55ME to feel like home to those who visit.

At the time of creating the website, I was living in the Middle East and was trying to think of a name that would connect my two homes (London and Dubai), together.

The name "55th Meridian East" is actually a line of longitude which passes through 8 countries, one being Dubai in the UAE. All of the countries on this meridian line are located, as the name suggests, 55 degrees east of the Prime Meridian in London. I liked the subtlety of the connection. To most people, it's just a strange and rather obscure name, but to me it has a much deeper meaning. It is a coordinate which connects my two favourite places together, and  I love it.

The story behind the name carries a really lovely message and is in line with the blogs core values about staying connected, and not losing sight of who you are or where you come from. I really hope that wherever my readers are in the world, they find sanctuary and a little piece of home in 55th Meridian East, just like I did.

Best wishes,

Laura E. Keough
